Outreach

If we are not actively involved in being a blessing to others around us, we are not fully living our faith.  I am a firm believer in letting actions speak.  As such, I have learned that often the most formative moments in a person’s faith life are those times when they are helping others.

Mission Trips

Since I began in ministry in 1988 I have been leading Youth Mission Trips to give youth the experience of helping others, of seeing what a difference they can make and of breaking down societal barriers so that they begin to see the people they are helping as children of God rather than just “the poor.”

I have led mission trips to: Washington D.C. and Ohio to work at Habitat for Humanity building sites, Florida for Hurricane Recovery, Los Angeles to work with an organization providing child care, food services and resources for those who are homeless, Appalachia to help renovate homes and to H.O.M.E. in Maine to reach out to those needing housing, food, clothing and work.  Mission trips have had long lasting impact on both the participants and those who receive help.

Feeding the Hungry

There are admonitions in both the Old and New Testament to feed the hungry. Our little church has taken food to our local homeless shelter a number of times over the years.  The space is very small so although more people are involved in making food only four can go to serve. It is a chance to remind ourselves that we are all just a lost job and a medical crisis from being on the streets ourselves.

Our youth group has served at the Keene Community Kitchen and has taken food to serve the hungry and homeless in Boston at Common Cathedral.  We also have a food pantry to support local families in need.

Zimbabwe Partnership

Personal connection with faithful people around the globe is another form of outreach. My congregation is blessed to be a partner church to the Mafumise Congregation in East Chipinge, Zimbabwe.

We have hosted three visitors from Zimbabwe and sent one of our youth to visit our sister church.  It is a joy to reach out across the world to embrace our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe.
