Pastoral Care

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is being a part of people’s lives through time of joy as well as times of tragedy.  In addition to visiting the elders in our community and those who are housebound or ill, I have the privilege of being invited into the homes and hearts of those who are grieving or who are struggling with new medical diagnoses. It is also a gift to work with those who are joining their lives together and those who are choosing to have their children baptized. I love being with people whether it is greeting them on the way out of church, sitting with the youth on the front lawn or visiting them in their homes or in the hospital.  So much pastoral care happens as the spirit creates moments of caring and compassion. On “Holy Spirit Days” I will get into my car and drive until I feel moved to stop at a parishioner’s home or a feeling in my gut will take me to a nursing home. Inevitably it means that I was meant to visit those people, and often it is just at the right moment.  Pastoral Care is a gift and I am thankful that it is part of my calling and my vocation.
